Nonsense words are letter sequences that follow predictable phonetic patterns. The words are pronounceable, but have no meaning. Your child's ability to read nonsense words is an indicator of thier progress in learning the most common letter sound for letters and whether your child can blend the sounds to read words he/she has never seen before. The more fluent your child is with letter sounds, the easier this activity will be for him/her.
