Sight Word Lists
These are lists of the Dolch words. Dolch words, also known as sight words, are the most frequently used words in text. There are 220 words that have to be easily recognized in order to achieve reading fluency. They account for 60-85% of all text in children's early reading materials. A child who knows the Dolch words has much of the base needed to recognize the majority of the words in a typical selection.
Your child will be expected to master the Pre-Primer, Primer, and 1st Grade lists this year. The 2nd and 3rd grade lists are included as well because I have found that 1st graders love the challenge!
