Online Learning

I want to inform you beginning on Monday, March 30th, the kids will no longer be working out of their paper packets.  Instead, your child will be expected to spend 60-90 minutes daily completing online learning and practicing skills.  This will come in the form of videos and activities and practice opportunities I assign your child online.
I posted a video below from Mr. Montgomery that shows you how to access "Clever" from the West Hills Primary website.  Your child's assignments will be posted there. I will continue to update my web page though and provide you messages through it.  Please continue to check the my web page!
I recommend that your child practice accessing his/her "Clever" account this week so that he/she will be ready to go next week.  If after watching the video you are still having problems, please let me know.  I'd like to have most of those issues ironed out before Monday.  I know Monday will have its own set of issues!
I will be providing more information as I develop and plan next week's instruction, but my plan as of now is to post all the assignments for the week on Sunday evening.  That will allow your child to work through them as it fits into your schedules, as many of you are still working, while others are trying to work from home.  My hope is that the videos/links/apps I assign your child will be sufficient teaching and practice, allowing him/her to master the skills.  Your child should need very little guidance as far as the work goes (maybe a little help with the technology piece of it at the beginning), but I'll try to use the same format daily/weekly so that they can get the hang of it.  I will be monitoring your child's progress through the apps, and will contact you if I feel there is an issue.
Our on-line learning will resemble our in-class learning in that we'll have a set of skills to learn and practice all week, with our goal being mastery by the end of the week.  For example:  Next week's skills will be: Long a (ai, ay), Telling Time (to the hour & 1/2 hour), Adjectives (describing words), Drawing Conclusions.  So a lot of our assignments will be focused around these skills.  Others however, will be review of already taught skills.
I know there will be a lot of questions/issues as we move forward so please do not hesitate to contact me.  We are all in this together. Open communication is the only way this will work so keep letting me know about the good, the bad, and the ugly!  I appreciate all that you are doing for your child, please keep up the good work and do the best you can.

Learning From Home

A packet was sent home with your child on Friday from school. There is a schedule of learning activities for your child to complete in the areas of English Language Arts and Math for 15 days and materials to use. They should begin this ALTERNATIVE LEARNING on WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18 with DAY 1. They will require some assistance from a grown-up to read instructions and monitor their reading.
For these next two days (March 16-17), if your child has access to a tablet or computer, you can visit these sites to help your child practice their reading and listening skills.

STARFALL
www.starfall.com (no login required for free features)
Your child is familiar with this site. We use it in school, however some features will not be enabled in the free version.

SPELLINGTRAINING
The little spelling superstars in my class will really like this site!  You pick the topic, and it will automatically pick words in that category to spell.  Some words will be a bit of a challenge, but I know a lot of the kiddos would be up for it!

IF YOUR CHILD DOES NOT HAVE ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY you can always read, count, color and do puzzles and games together. I would suggest you try to establish a routine for doing learning activities in your home so that your child realizes it is going to be a part of their time at home for the next few weeks.

As we begin this adventure together, please do NOT hesitate to contact me anytime.  You can email me through this web page or text me through the Remind app.  I will get back to you as quickly as I can! Thanks so much!
